here is a helpful link provided by the MTA: http://www.trips123.com/trip_planner/default.asp
All you have to do is enter the address you're starting from and your destination, and it'll give you a variety of options on how to get there. I guess it's the least they can do, given how much transit fares have gone up recently. :)

It's been raining all night. It's the middle of April, and Spring is in the air. The city's been covered in a foggy mist all day, and it makes me think of my mood for the past few months: dour, unmotivated, lazy- in other words, months spent without handball. There's a noticeable change in my behavior when I don't play handball, the least of which is a downturn in physical activity. I've got to try quitting cigarettes again. I need to work on my off-hand, and re-build my game again. You can't pl…

The more I play handball, the more pain I feel on my elbow. I think the pain is equivalent to tennis elbow. I've been wearing a elbow sleeve to compress the muscles around it, to give it more support, but there is still minor pulsing ache when I play. Besides that I figure I just have to rest more between games and rely less on elbow movement swing and more of a shoulder movement swing. I don't heal as fast as I use to.

I MUST stop running around my right. I think that I've made a conscious effort to work on my left in recent months, which has led to overuse on that side. My doubles game is suffering because of it, and my singles game too. I've been watching some top-level singles games in recent days, and I've noticed that players with a left off-hand will almost hug or straddle the left sideline and give themselves the rest of the court to cover with their right. I've got to incorporate this into my games. Th…

Given what I've stated about doubles strategy already, sometimes you have to fight against your strongest impulses in doubles--because it takes 2 people to win. Unfortunately, impulses are often times "unconscious" and it can hard for a player to correct his own mistakes. That's what's great about doubles: an extra set of hands, eyes and a brain is a STRENGTH, not a weakness.
In light of that statement, yesterday, my partner Bob kept telling me not to run around my right…

Doubles strategy can be deceptively simple. There are some basic principles that can be followed, such as playing the middle, cutting off angles, and lobbing to isolate partners. The possibilities for responses are so varied in actual match play, however, that it is up to the individual to determine how a rally plays out. I've recently begun to note the similarities between a handball match and chess. There seems to be a opening, a middle game and an end game. Different caliber players tend to h…

Staying in shape takes work. I know this will not come as a surprise to a lot of people out there, but when you've got bad eating habits and a lazy routine it almost takes a miracle to get into shape. At least, it feels that way. Little by little, I've been changing the way I eat and exercise, and even though it's taken months, I've started to see the changes. And when you begin to see those changes, you feel good about yourself.

Went over to 88th today, and didn't leave till it was too dark. Went with Patrick, and we got in a couple of singles and doubles games. He had me 8-1 as it was getting dark, but I caught a few lucky breaks and won 11-9. His serve was virtually unreturnable for those first 9 points. I couldn't even move my feet on a couple of them.
Patrick shook Buddy Gantt's hand before we started playing, and we are both of the opinion that…

Heading over to the courts on 88th and Atlantic after work. I've been hearing there'a a lot of action going on, and I'm excited to play some new heads.
I've lost quite a couple of doubles games recently, though my singles record is somewhat better. I need to become a better partner, and there are many areas to work on. Hitting aggressive shots is still difficult sometimes, because I've got an outdated "weak side" mentality that is way too passive.

Given the schedule for this weekend, I thought I was going to watch a lot more handball than I did. King of the Courts was cancelled. The Women's A/B Doubles on Sunday didn't start in time to avoid the rain. I know that the individuals who run the tournaments deal with a lot responsibilities, and I know they don't get paid to do what they do, but we've got to get these events running more smoothly than they do at present.

I woke up early today so I could head over to Roy Wilkens Park in Jamaica and catch the action going on at the King of the Courts. I took the train and bus with a friend, and we got to the park at about 10-10.30 to find out that the tournament had been cancelled--
because there weren't enough entries--to the KING OF THE COURTS. I don't understand how this situation could possibly occur, but there you have it. It would have been a complete disappointment if not for the singles an…

The first day was no problem. Day 2 was a bit harder only because I missed the actual act of consuming solid foods. My energy felt good, and I even felt a little bit of the energy buzz. Concentration levels felt good, too. I'm really looking forward to getting on the courts after the cleanse is through and my hamstring heals up.
Also, I've been feeling no cravings for cigarettes, either- and that's from day one- so I'm really feeling good about myself.

So, today is Day One of my detoxification program. Made about 3 bottles of the nutrient mixture before heading off to work, and I've finished one so far. The drink itself tastes fine, almost a bit like lemonade/iced tea, and I've got to say that so far I haven't felt any pangs of hunger. Then again, I'm only about 3.5 hours into it....
It took a couple of days to mentally prepare to do it, since you work against a lot of bad habits and routines. I might miss 'chewing' for a bit, but my…

after beating up on my body for about 5 or 6 years, I'm back to playing handball with the frequency and dedication I posessed when I first started back in '93-'94. In previous attempts to return to playing handball, I focused on doubles because I figured it would be easier for me to get back into the game, and it would also mask a lot of my weaknesses. Unfortunately, it also didn't make me a better player. This time I'm starting with singles primarily, and mixing in some doubles in between. I…

The dive is very important, especially in doubles. I've been getting in better shape, so I can get to really low shots, but I'm still about 1 step away from effectively picking them up. My off-hand is getting better, but not where I want it to be.

hi handball lovers, I have enjoyed making handball videos, the last one I made was killer Chris vs Bobby Byrd, and am really glad you've enjoyed watching them. I've been very busy but when I get a chance I'll make another one even better, so just keep playing hard, you just might end up in the next video. Oh, and I guess let me know what you guys want to see in the next video.
